The Fargo Freeze 12UA team captured the North Dakota Amateur Hockey Association state championship March 9-12 in Grand Forks.
The Freeze opened play with a 5-0 victory over Grand Forks before dropping a 1-0 decision to Bismarck in the semifinals. Fargo then had to battle Grand Forks again, this time claiming a 4-3 victory in three overtimes. That set up a rematch with Bismarck on Sunday morning in which they earned a 2-0 win. The NDAHA is a double-elimination format which meant the championship game was slated between Fargo and Bismarck -- the third time they faced each other in 26 hours -- on Sunday afternoon.
The Freeze used four more overtime periods but outlasted Bismarck 3-2 to claim the hardware.
